LL84: Annual energy benchmarking

Buildings 25,000 sqft or larger must report energy and water consumption to DEP every year by May 1.

What you file

• Total site energy use (electricity, gas, steam, oil)
• Total water use
• Occupied square footage
• Property type

Submitted via ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, then reported to DEP.

Non-compliance

$500 per quarter missed. Fines can accumulate to $2,000/year. Compliance is public — buildings that don't file are named in DEP's annual report.
